Bridging Climate Ambition and Investment for Sustainable Cities

In an increasingly urbanized world, where over 50% of the population currently resides in cities—a figure expected to reach 70% by 2050—urban areas drive a significant share of global GDP, energy consumption, and greenhouse gas emissions.

At the same time, cities face the most urgent need for climate adaptation. As the epicenters of both environmental impact and resilience efforts, they play a crucial role in decarbonization and the fight against climate change.

Cities face the challenge of electrifying mobility, expanding renewable energy sources, enhancing building energy efficiency, promoting circular economies, adopting nature-based solutions for water management, and designing resilient green infrastructure.

Public budgets are estimated to cover only 20% of the necessary investment for sustainable urban transformation, leaving the remaining 80% to be sourced from the private sector.

This gap demands effective collaboration between stakeholders with diverse perspectives, priorities, and communication styles. At GNE Finance, we bridge this divide by connecting climate action initiatives with funding sources, accelerating the transition toward sustainable and resilient cities and municipalities.

Vision

We envision a future where urban life, municipalities of all sizes, and society at large are shaped in balance with the natural environment and the resources that sustain it — places where living well means living sustainably. On the horizon, we see cities, towns, and communities that are resilient, inclusive, and climate-positive: powered by clean energy, shaped by circular practices, rich in biodiversity, and designed to improve people’s health, equity, and quality of life within planetary boundaries.

Mission

Our mission is to help climate action promoters bridge the funding gap — turning ambitious ideas into fundable, implementable projects that drive real impact. We connect strategies with finance, structure solutions that are technically sound and investment-ready, and support projects from concept to execution. We work with public and private actors not only to deliver projects, but to build the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to replicate solutions and accelerate climate action over time.
